Do you hate vegetables? Do you have young ones that do whatever they can to avoid green food? Well there is a new game from Still Running that will satisfy your adversity to these healthy little nuggets. The Walking Vegetables is a twin stick shooter that allows you to wreak vengeance on veggies.
You play as a hard-boiled cop that must protect the world from sentient vegetables from outer space. Armed with a pistol with unlimited ammo and a police baton, it is up to you to remove any threat. Through your battles you can find new and more devastating weapons or pick up enough coins to buy them in a local shop.
Fight through a city filled will killer fruits and veggies, clearing the streets, and securing buildings if you want an extra challenge. Most enemies will just try to bite or hit you, but some are carrying ray guns, spray acid or worse. You can shoot them, kill them with environmental hazards, beat them to death, or even use you melee weapon to hit bullets back at them. Anything to rid the planet of those vile veggies. Once you clear enough of the enemies you will have to fight a super-sized boss. If you beat them, it is off to another part of the city to do it all over again.
The game is filled with 80’s references and is a true retro title. One of the 1st things you will notice about the game is the tracking lines that occasionally run through the screen. Graphics are a pure throw back to the golden age of video games. The evil foes are deliciously designed, with each taking on traits of their respective fruit or veggie. It doesn’t matter if it is a crying onion, an acid spewing citrus, giant pea pods popping out peas at you – each enemy will have you giggling as you send it to its death. The music will keep your head bopping and have you pumping out rounds one after another. Even as gameplay goes on, you won’t get tired of the music or the sound effects.
The Walking Vegetables is out now. If you are a fan of twin stick shooters or games with a comic flair – this is a must have title. Alone or with a friend, you will have a blast sautéing the villains and saving the earth.
