If Metroid and the Binding of Isaac had a baby you would get A Robot Named Fight. It combines the rogue-like design of Metroid and the power-ups of The Binding of Isaac.
The controls are a bit hard to learn, but you can change them in the settings into something easier to use. The game also allows you to change the gore settings, so you can lower them for younger players. There is no tutorial so you must learn the game on your own. There are 50 “achievements” but they seem to be more of milestones. After you get an achievement you unlock a weapon or power up that you can pick up in a future run. There are three endings to the game.
Each run is different, but it starts off most of the time with you “waking” up next to a pile of “dead” robots. You then start your dangerous journey to fight the Megabeast. Along the way you pick up powerups to unlock doors down the road or to help fight bosses and monsters. There are over a 100 powers up and weapons to earn. There are shops where you can trade for weapons and maps using the four different scraps that you can get from dead enemies or from secret areas that you can get to by shoot the walls and hitting a breakable block.
The music for the game has that other world feel and the songs fit the game almost flawlessly. The art style is a blast to the past with old school Metroid graphics. The graphics have a rusty feeling to them, reminding you more of that classic game.
A Robot Named Fight will set you back by $12.99 and was made by Matt Bitner Games.
